Data portability
Data portability is a term associated with the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR). Data portability is the right for a data subject to receive the personal data concerning them, which they have previously provided in a 'commonly used and machine readable format' and have the right to transmit that data to another controller. Individuals do not own their data, but they are permitted to access it without compromising its integrity or security.
Data portability relies on the adoption of common technical standards in order to support a seamless transfer. Consequently, the term has also been used to describe the ability to move other types of data outside of traditional silos and across different applications, programs and platforms.
